Kerli Koiv, who goes by mononym Kerli as a stage name, is a "Bubble Goth" singer-songwriter from Estonia. She tried out for several singing competitions before moving to the states and and being signed to Island Records in 2006. Two years later her first studio album Love is Dead came out and her single "Walking on Air" topped charts worldwide. As she progressed over the years she left her alternative rock roots behind and shifted toward electronic and dance styles. In 2013 her second EP Utopia launched. That year she also performed on Dancing with the Stars and left Island Records to sign a deal with Ultra Music. Songs co-written by Kerli such as "Skyscraper" and "I Feel Immortal" were rerecorded by other artists such as Demi Lovato and Tarja Turunen.

As of late she has moved back to Estonia, dropped her major label, and is is pursuing independent crowdfunded projects such as her latest single "Feral Hearts" and upcoming album of the same title. In an interview with elsesolheim.com she discussed the idea behind the Feral Hearts music video,

"The visual for Feral Hearts was shot in Estonia so the main inspiration really was our beautiful nature. I also wanted to tell the story of this little girl wandering into the unknown and chasing her vision (the white stag) because that’s what I did last year in my own real life. I quit my big city existence and moved to the forest to discover who I really am. It was frightening but it was also amazingly liberating."
